Cheap Scotland breaks from £149 – as Nicola Sturgeon says travel could open up between Brit countries from April 26

NICOLA STURGEON has revealed key dates for the easing of travel and holidays rules as part of Scotland's roadmap out of lockdown.

There are some major differences compared to Boris Johnson's plans, including that domestic tourism will be permitted in Scotland from April 26.

As part of the roadmap, Scotland will lift its near-nationwide “stay at home” order on April 2, and for at the first three weeks after it lifts, the guidance will be to “stay local”.

The first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, said that according to an “indicative timeline” of April 26, restrictions on journeys within mainland Scotland will be lifted and tourist accommodation and hotels will open.

Links with other UK nations could also be possible from April 26 “or very shortly afterwards”.

It means those Brits looking to holiday in the UK can now plan a break to Scotland.

There are some great deals to the country, including:

  • Haven Holidays 4-nights May and June breaks at Craig Tara and Seaton Sands parks from £149 per stay
  • Sykes Cottages 3-night May and June breaks from £247 per stay
  • Easyjet flights to Edinburgh from £19.99 each way
  • Easyjet Edinburgh 2-night city breaks from £199pp
  • Forest Holidays cabin & lodge breaks with hot-tubs from £145 per night
  • British Airways Holidays 3-night May breaks in Edinburgh from £159pp
  • Holiday Cottages 3-night May breaks in Scotland from £274

The sequence of events for easing lockdown in Scotland is out of step with England.

Under Boris Johnson's roadmap, the stay at home rule for England is set to be lifted on March 29.

Self-catered holidays are welcoming guests back again from April 12, which includes sites such as caravan parks, but only with one household sharing a property.

From May 17, groups of up to six people from different households or unlimited numbers of people from two households can share a holiday let together. Hotels and B&Bs are also able to open.

These dates, as with the Scottish timetable, are not set in stone and will only happen if there is no significant worsening of the coronavirus situation.

The first minister said the “significant reduction” of cases over the past few weeks allowed some relaxation. The number of Covid deaths in the past two weeks has halved.

But the first minister played down the reopening of large-scale tourism, saying that international travel may well not open until some time after May 17.
