Disney is testing a new way for visitors to enter the Magic Kingdom through facial recognition.

The test, launched on Tuesday, is optional and will be conducted from Mar. 23 to April 23.

The technology captures an image of a guest’s face and converts it into a unique number, which is then associated with the form of admission being used for park entry.

Children under 18 must be in the presence of their parents or guardian and have consent before participating.

When visitors enter the park, they can enter through the lane designated for the test program. They must remove accessories, including hats, visors or sunglasses, and have their face mask on.

Once visitors enter the lane, they must stand facing the camera and then position their park admission or MagicBand close to the scanner to activate the technology. Then, the scanner will capture an image, which will be converted into a unique number that will be associated with their ticket.

Other travel companies have also introduced facial recognition technology as a mode of entry. In 2019, Delta Air Lines installed optional facial recognition boarding in several airports. American Airlines also began using biometric boarding for customers departing from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
