Egypt holiday warning as travel advice is updated for Brits | The Sun

BRITS have been warned about travelling to parts of Egypt as the UK government has updated the advice for holidaymakers.

Egypt scrapped all coronavirus restrictions for holidaymakers at the end of June, allowing tourists to visit the country more easily.

However, the UK Government has now updated their advice for people planning a trip to Egypt, warning against any travel to certain parts of the popular holiday destination.

The Foreign Office advice now states: "The FCDO now advises against all travel to within 20km of the Egyptian and Libyan border.

"This excludes the town of El Salloum where FCDO continues to advise against all but essential travel."

Fortunately for holidaymakers, this doesn't apply to popular resorts like Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Cairo.

Most places remain unchanged by the updated advice, which mainly affects desert regions in the west of the country.

However, there are other areas of Egypt that the UK Government also advise against travel to.

All travel to the North Sinai Governorate in the north east of the country is advised against.

The FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to the northern part of the Governorate of South Sinai beyond the St Catherine-Nuweibaa road and the Nile Valley and Nile Delta regions.

This excludes the Governorate of Faiyum, and coastal areas between the Nile Delta and Marsa Matruh, the Marsa Matruh-Siwa Road, and the oasis town of Siwa.

In addition to the specific warnings, the Government state that terrorists are "very likely to try to carry out attacks in Egypt" and that Brits could be targeted.

The FCDO website says: "There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria.

"You should follow the advice of Egyptian authorities, remaining particularly vigilant and maintaining a high level of security awareness in crowded places and at large gatherings."

However, they do assure people that "most visits are trouble free."
