Exasperated holidaymaker shows all hotel's sun loungers reserved before pool is even open | The Sun

TOURISTS in Torremolinos are taking sunbed wars to a new extreme and are ridiculously claiming loungers before the pool is even open.

It seems holidaymakers in Spain are now sneaking down to the facilities in the early hours to reserve their sunbathing spot.

Hundreds of sunbeds at Hotel Riu Costa del Sol were already spoken for by 9am – despite that being the time the pool opens.

One stunned guest filmed the dozens of towels that tourists had flung across loungers to mark their territory for the day.

Julie-Anne Alexander said she was left struggling to find a spot when she headed down to the pool in the morning.

The holidaymaker became fed up while searching for a place to unwind, as people had dumped their towels on almost all of them.

But she eventually managed to find the last free bed that was left after trawling through the endless rows of claimed sun loungers.

However, the small business owner was left baffled when she noticed there was "only a handful of people actually using them."

Julie-Anne claimed that hundreds of guests had somehow crept down before it opened to claim a prime poolside position.

As the gates to the pool are locked overnight, she was left stumped as to how all the loungers had been claimed so early in the morning.

In a video posted on TikTok, she showed how tourists had laid claim to every row of sun loungers with the classic towel trick.

But there were only two people actually swimming – and hardly anyone was sunbathing on the beds.

Julie Anne captioned the post: "God knows how everyone is able to fill up hundreds of beds before it is even open!

"Only a handful of people actually using them.

"I came down just before 9am and have managed to get the last sunbed here."

Social media users were just as shocked by the ever-increasing boldness of so-called "sunbed hoggers".

One wrote: "I'm staying in Torremolinos now and it is the same here. Absolute joke."

Another commented: "We were at Puente Real last week and they started at 7am too."

And a third added: "It's the pool that opens at nine. The gates open at seven."

The Sun bravely flew into the heart of the "carnage" to assess the growing problem of sunbed wars across Europe.

This summer has seen a huge rise in scraps over sunbeds as the ongoing heat causes a scramble for the best spots.

Brits staying at the four-star Hotel Estival Torrequebrada wait for up to two hours every morning before the pool opens to bag a lounger.

Holidaymakers bring chairs and form a queue outside the gate as they wait patiently for the lifeguard to open the pool area at 9am.
