Flight Centre now lets holidaymakers change trips up to day of travel

FLIGHT CENTRE is now letting holidaymakers change their booking up to the day of travel.

The new policy change allows Brits to modify or cancel their trip with a full refund if the traffic light colour of their travel destination changes.

So if the government announces a change from green to amber, or green or amber to red, customers will get the chance to amend their options on the morning of their holiday for free.

From May 17, international travel is expected to restart, but what you need to do about testing and quarantine will depend on the colour each country will be designated under the new system.

In the case of “green” countries you can travel and return home without having to quarantine. But you will need to have a negative test to come back into the UK and then take a further  test within two days of returning.

“Amber” countries will involve spending ten days in quarantine on your return to the UK. You’ll have to take a test to get back into the country as well as two further PCR tests, on days two and eight.

“Red” countries will mean a ten-day stay in managed hotel quarantine, with a test before you come back into the country and tests on days two and eight. It currently costs £1,750 per person for hotel quarantine.

Of course, depending on the country you plan to visit, they will also have their own testing or vaccine requirements to let you travel there in the first place.

Flight Centre joins a number of other companies including TUI, easyJet and British Airways, who have also implemented flexible booking policies for when traffic light systems change.

Sunseekers looking for a European break this month will be able to head to Gibraltar or Malta, The Sun has revealed.

The two tiny Mediterranean sunspots are set to be included on the green list for quarantine-free travel after 17 May – due to be announced this Friday.

Portugal may also get the nod, but holiday favourites Spain and Greece will have to likely wait until a review in June, sources say.

They are likely to be on the "amber list" meaning people can visit but they will have to quarantine for ten days when they return to the UK.

But insiders think most top destinations including France will be given the green travel go ahead by the school summer holidays in July.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps is due to unveil the full list on Friday – with travel industry bosses braced for a flurry of bookings this weekend.
