Good Hotel Guide reveals the UK’s top hotels for dogs and their owners

TAKE your pandemic pups and faithful four-legged friends on a mini break in Britain.

The latest edition of the Good Hotel Guide, the Bible of hotel recommendations, has a choice list of the UK’s top hotels for dogs and their owners.

Jane Knight reveals them exclusively here.

NO 15 GREAT PULTENEY BATH, AVON

CITY hotels aren’t always mutt-friendly, but this one in behind a Grade I-listed Georgian facade is perfect.

As well as having unlimited dog treats in the pantry and pooch blankets in the contemporary bedrooms, the hotel is just over the road from dog-friendly Henrietta Park. And if you prefer to to explore Bath on your own, they can book a local dog-walker or doggie daycare for you. Dogs are welcome in the bar, but not in the restaurant, which serves modern English food.

GO: B&B double rooms cost from £195 per night and dogs cost an extra £25. Call 01225 807015 or see guesthousehotels.co.uk.

TY MAWR BRECHFA, CARMARTHEN

ONCE your pooch has explotred the acre of gardens running down to the River Marlais, there are plenty of walks in the vast Brechfa Forest on the hotel’s margins.

There are also doggy days each Monday and Friday at the nearby National Botanic Garden of Wales. Ty Mawr’s owners Paul Bennett and Melissa Hurley offer information on local walks, as well as biscuits and bowls for dogs, and a wonderful welcome for all.

Dogs stay free of charge in the bedrooms, some with antiques and beams. Paul cooks up a nightly-changing evening meal which is big on local sourcing.

GO: B&B doubles are from £130 per night. Call 01267 202332 or see wales-country-hotel.co.uk.

THE THREE BLACKBIRDS WOODDITTON, CAMBS

THE food in this 17th-century thatched inn is a cut above for humans and their four-legged friends.

While owners enjoy dishes such as partridge with celeriac mash in the dining room their pets can tuck into a meal under the table from a menu, including venison jerky and Bottom-Sniffer beer or Tailwagger Creek wine (0% alcohol). In a newbuilt barn at the back, six of the boutique-style bedrooms are dog-friendly.

GO: B&B doubles cost from £100 per night and dogs cost an extra £15. Call 01638 731100 or see threeblackbirds.co.uk

THE HARPER LANGHAM, NORFOLK

RETURN from a play on Norfolk’s beautiful beaches and there’s an outdoors roll-top bath and shower to wash sand and mud from dirty paws, and a hamper of towels in the lobby to dry them.

Then relax in the ink-blue bar, with its plush dog bed among the brightly coloured velvet sofas, old car seat chairs and upcycled pipework used for bottle shelves.

Dogs are also allowed in the downstairs games room, the pleasant courtyard area and spacious downstairs bedrooms. While they aren’t allowed in the restaurant, food is served in the bar.

GO: B&B doubles are from £175 per night. Dogs cost an extra £25. Call 01328 805000 or see theharper.co.uk.

On your return you’ll find warming wood burners and towels to wipe dirty paws.
