Heathrow Airport is offering free flights to reunite families separated by Covid

HEATHROW Airport is giving away free flights to families this summer, to reunite people with their loved ones who have been separated by Covid.

Along with free flights, they are also throwing in free meals and gifts at the airport.

New research conducted by the airport has revealed that two in three Brits haven't seen their loved ones in more than a year.

The new scheme is being launched to celebrate Heathrow's 75th anniversary, teaming up with airlines British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Blue Air, as well as airport partners such as Leon, Gordon Ramsay Plane Food and Fortnum & Mason.

Families will be able to apply for the Come Fly Again competition on the Heathrow website, simply by explaining who and why they should be reunited.

Couples, families and individuals can all apply – you just have to be over 18.

Lucky winners will be announced throughout the year, during the summer holiday, autumn school holidays and at Christmas.

Launched from today, the competition is running until November 2021.

Heathrow COO Ross Baker said: "Now, more than ever, it’s important that we help to reconnect friends, family and loved ones across the globe, so we’re happy to be able to work with our incredible airport partners to make the experience more special after what has been such a difficult year, for so many."

It follows the announcement that EU and US arrivals will be able to skip the UK quarantine rules, when returning from the amber list destinations.

Currently, only Brits who have had both jabs can avoid the 10-day quarantine rules.

From August 2, however, anyone with both jabs in the US and the EU will be able to follow the same rules.

There is also hope that more countries could be added to the UK's green list next week, the Foreign Secretary said this morning.
