I stayed in a secret wizard's chambers in London – with magic potions & a broomstick | The Sun

HARRY Potter would have loved to trade up his bedroom under the stairs for the wizards' chambers at The Georgian House Hotel in central London.

On the ground floor and upstairs, the renovated townhouse hotel in Pimlico has modern furniture and grand fireplaces.

But behind an inconspicuous door at the back of the property, marked by a frankly creepy painting, there is a dark stairs leading to a medieval-looking basement.

Clutching the giant old key given to us by reception, my three-year-old son and I held onto each other as we made our way past spooky pictures and old candelabras, to room No.6.

Given the run-up, I'm not sure who was more relieved, my pre-schooler or I, when we opened the door onto a warm, bright and luxury, yet truly quirky chamber.

I was blown away by the attention to detail, with a basket full of what appeared to be broomsticks, a four-poster bed surrounded by red velvet curtains, "panelled" walls and gothic-style wooden wardrobes.

Driftwood Beach House in Kent is a unique and luxurious 5* seaside escape

Gothic-style wardrobes, stained-glass windows, a faux-coal fire and trinkets covering the surfaces kept my son entertained for hours.

The balance between comfort and quirky was perfectly balanced – the bedsheets felt luxurious and the toiletries were White Company.

My only gripe would be the noise from the floor above – as you're in the basement the early rising housekeeping team could be heard before dawn. But that was nothing my earplugs couldn't fix.

An added benefit was the bag of ‘magic coins’ my pre-schooler was
entrusted with on check-in, which he could use to buy ghoulish treats
like chocolate frogs from the hotel reception tuck box.

In-keeping with the theme, the hotel was also holding special  potion-making sessions – aka alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails (£25 for cocktails or £20 for mocktails) for Halloween.

We turned goblin goo into caviar, mixed werewolf fur and turned our drinks different colours with our smoking magic wands.

Enchanted Afternoon Tea, costing £40 per adult, was also available on weekends throughout October, with additional days during half term.

We had a brilliant time feasting on spooky-themed food, including witch's hat sandwiches and popping candy jam scones, accompanied by ‘wizard’s tears’ soda for my son and a bright blue G&T for the adults, while the table was coated in the mist of a smoking cauldron centrepiece.
