I tried out Thorpe Park's new terrifying ride – and it's only for the brave | The Sun

THORPE Park’s new Ghost Train has officially opened and I headed down to see if I was actually brave enough to endure the "one-way ticket beyond the veil into darkness".

Ghost Train replaces Derren Brown's Ghost Train: Rise of the Demon which used VR headsets to spook people.

The new ride is completely VR-free and instead uses live actors and multisensory effects to tell the scary story of ‘The Believers’ tribe.

Daredevils (aka me) have to rush past terrifying train conductors and Ghost Train superfans to even get to the entrance of the ride.

Once inside, Station Master Angelis Mortis warns that the last train "may never return from its final destination" before asking if you still want to carry on, trust me, you do.

Through the waiting room, it’s time to board the blacked-out train and head to the haunted Chapel Station.

Love Island’s stars look glam at Thorpe Park’s Ghost Train launch

This is when the live-action and multisensory effects really come into play, think possessed actors, flashing lights and loud bangs.

Arriving into Chapel Station, you’re taken into the crypt of ‘The Believers Tribe’ and forced to sacrifice your soul to Satan, let’s just say it’s not for the faint-hearted.

Fortunately you are allowed to re-board the train which takes you back to the land of the living, but not before another multisensory overload.

Then, just when you think you’re finally safe, there’s an added freaky finale in the gift shop, we won’t spoil it for you but it was very unexpected!

I wasn't the only one to try out the new ride.

Love Island stars Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown and Cynthia Otseh-Taiwo along with fellow Love Island legends Kem and Chris Hughes were some of the brave celebs to try it too.

Ghost Train makes a great addition to rollercoasters Swarm, Stealth – the fastest rollercoaster in the UK – and Nemesis Inferno.

And there are lots of other exciting events taking place at Thorpe Park this year.

The park's own Mardi Gras returns from May 18 to June 11 as well as the summer Carnival from July 21 to August 28.

Also returning this year is Oktoberfest from September 8 to October 1 and the much-loved Fright Night from October 6 to 31.

The theme park has also unveiled plans for a brand-new rollercoaster that would be the biggest in the UK.
