Inside Disney's new private island with adult-only beaches, cabanas and splash zone – and it's opening next year | The Sun

DISNEY has announced that they will be welcoming guests to their new private island in 2024.

Lighthouse Point will be the second private island for Disney, which they are opening following the success of Castaway Cay.

Both of the islands are in the Bahamas and will be served exclusively by Disney cruises.

First announced in 2019, guests will be granted access to a large family beach, with "activities and adventures" for every age group.

They include story-telling for kids and experiences with their favourite Disney characters, while an adult-exclusive beach with a dedicated dining area will give parents the chance to have a break.

Youngsters can also be entertained by a gaming pavilion, a volleyball court and a ball pit while watercraft and bicycle rentals will also be available.

Children aged between 3-12 age will have access to a themed kids’ club run by Disney Cruise Line counsellors, again offering parents some alone time.

Families who wish to stick together can do so in family-friendly cabanas that can be hired on site.

Disney says that the new island will allow visitors to experience the country and its culture in "a new way".

Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line said: “At Disney Cruise Line, we have a deep appreciation for the Bahamian community.

“We are connected in many ways, including our shared values of storytelling and hospitality.

"With the opening of Lighthouse Point, visitors from around the world will experience the magic of The Bahamas in a new way, one that truly celebrates its natural and cultural beauty.”

Disney has also arranged a number of other excursions with local tour operators, meaning guests will be able to explore other places in the Bahamas, like the rest of Eleuthera.

Mocked-up images reveal restaurants and entertainment venues with curved roofs, surrounded by palm trees and vegetation, with many leading out onto the family beach.

A water play area connected by wooden boardwalks is spotted behind the huts, with plans for spas and conservation facilities on the island as well.

When it was announced in 2019, Imagineer Joe Rhode said: "To make this authentic we have to do this together with Bahamian artists and Bahamian thinkers and people from the Bahamian country.

"There are storytelling experiences, there'll be musical experiences, they'll all come together to make this very unique vibrant, colourful art."

The island is opening following the success of Disney's first private island Castaway Cay, which first opened in 1998, and was the first private island in the cruise industry.

It hosts a 5k Disney race, as well as an adults-only beach of its own called Serenity Bay.
