Luke Combs continues to speak out about his mental health.
The country star, 30, appears in an upcoming episode of The Big Interview with Dan Rather, which will air on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST on AXS TV. While discussing some of the positive progress he has made while coping with anxiety, Combs told the host, 89, "I still have my moments here and there. It's something I've learned about and it's something I've been able to get a hold of."
Combs also revealed that he is living with purely obsessional obsessive-compulsive disorder. Also known as Pure O, the condition is similar to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but instead of causing repeating physical actions, this particular form of OCD triggers ruminating thoughts. Ruminating thoughts can be described as the continual overthinking of a particular subject, event or emotion. What makes it challenging for many is that such thoughts typically continue with no conclusion.
For the singer-songwriter, he explained that he typically experiences thoughts regarding his well-being. He detailed: "It'll be something about my health. I'll be worried that I'm about to have a heart attack or a stroke. It becomes this very obsessive thing that you literally can never have an answer to. That's the awful part of it. You have to teach yourself to become comfortable with the fact that you'll never get an answer and that it is a super uncertain thing. That is what I've particularly struggled with. Sometimes that's tough, but it's something that you learn about yourself. Arming yourself with the knowledge of exactly what's going on is the most important thing, I've found."
In another segment during Combs' virtual chat on The Big Interview with Dan Rather, the singer told Rather how great it feels to have achieved so much success at 30 years old. "What a ride you are having," the host said. The country crooner replied, "It's basically been pretty crazy. [I] would've never imagined anything like this happening to me, but I just got lucky I guess. Right place, right time, right songs that I just so happened to write. I'm just enjoying the ride so far."

When Rather asked the star where his motivation and drive comes from, Combs said: "I tried to do a lot of things in my life. I had been singing ever since I was a little kid, as long as I can remember. It was something I enjoyed [doing] and felt like I was pretty good at and happy to do. I just kept doing that for a long time and I picked up the guitar at 21 years old [after] singing my whole life. Those two things met and that was it."
After sharing that he charged $1 per ticket at his first show and earned $200 in one weekend (more than he ever made at his other two jobs), he went on: "I was like, 'Well, that's all right. If I can do something that I love and people want to show up and I can get paid for it, that's pretty solid.' Once I figured that out man, there was no stopping me."
Combs shared that he feels he's learned quite a bit since kicking off his musical career. He said: "I've grown so much as a human being and as a man since then. I've learned a lot about the world. I had never been on an airplane until I was 25 years old. Now, I've played two tours in Australia, three tours in Europe. … It's just been insane. … I like to think I'm pretty much the same guy that I was back then. Pretty level-headed, pretty easy to get along with [and a] pretty agreeable guy. I just love to go out and sing and have a good time and make people happy. I'm just lucky that people love to watch me do that."
