Most popular holiday destinations for 2022 including Spain and Portugal – with bargain deals from £199

THE top 10 most popular holiday destinations for Brits in 2022 have been revealed – and Brits are flocking to Spain and Portugal.

Following the easing of Covid testing requirements, holiday protection company ABTA has revealed which destinations are expected to be the most popular with Brits this year.

So if you're planning on a 2022 holiday, this list could help you choose where to go.

1. Spain

Perhaps unsurprisingly, topping people's travel wish list is Spain.

With sun, sea and sand just a short plane ride away, Spain has long been the UK's favourite holiday destination.

ABTA revealed that the country usually attracts more than 18m Brits a year.

Ryanair is offering outbound flights from Luton to Malaga for as little as £9 in May.

And British Airways is offering seven-night all-inclusive stays in Malaga and Majorca from £199.

2. The US

Topping the list of long-haul destinations Brits are keen to go to is the US.

After Brits were banned from entering the US for nearly two years during the pandemic – people are desperate to head across the pond.

New York and Florida are among the most popular US destinations with Brits hoping to soak up some fun and culture.

British Airways is offering return flights to New York from £326 and return flights to San Francisco from £343.

3. France

France has long been a popular destination with Brits.

With sunshine, beaches and mountains aplenty – not to mention the food and drink – France is a reliable holiday destination.

Although Brits are currently banned from entering France, a French government spokesperson has confirmed that restrictions will soon be eased for some travellers.

When the restrictions will be lifted is yet to be made clear, but Brits will be able to visit soon.

Flights from Stanstead to Toulouse are available from £33 in May.

4. Italy

Italy has come in at fourth on the most popular holiday destinations for Brits in 2022.

And it's not difficult to see why – it has everything any holidaymaker could want from a vacation.

With beautiful beaches, quaint villages, shopping, walking, eating and drinking, Italy really has it all.

Ryanair is offering return flights from Stanstead to Milan from £22 in June.

5. Greece

Just sneaking into the top five most popular holiday destinations for 2022 is firm favourite Greece.

For Brits who want to soak up some culture in Athens or Rhodes, or get some Instagram-worthy snaps while they're island hopping – Greece has got you covered.

EasyJet is offering return flights from Gatwick to Corfu for as little as £39 in March while holidays are just £228 with Jet2.

Portugal, Germany, Australia, Canada and Turkey rounded out the top 10.

Bookings have surged since the government announced Covid testing requirements were being eased.

As of 4am this morning, travellers no longer need to take pre-departure Covid tests when returning to England.

And from 4am on Sunday, day two tests can be swapped from expensive PCR tests to cheaper lateral flow tests for vaccinated travellers – who won't need to isolate while they wait for their results.
