New 30-minute direct train between Luton Airport and London to launch this summer

A DIRECT train connecting Luton Airport and London is to launch this summer, taking just 30 minutes to the terminal.

It is great news for low-cost travellers, with the airport operating flights with Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air.

The new route will run between 6am and 10pm every half an hour on weekdays, as well as late night and early morning routes.

While there are currently train links between the city and the airport with Thamselink, the new route will be a faster, non-stop option.

The Luton Airport Express plans to open from May, in time for the summer season.

It also replaces the bus service for the 1.5 mile route.

EMR managing director Will Rogers said that the new route will offer "more seats, quicker journeys and a simpler and more resilient timetable".

Other airports already have fast routes, include the Gatwick Express and the Heathrow Express.

With Luton further out of London, the new train link is great new for holidaymakers buying cheaper fares.

Sadly, Brits are unable to travel right now due to the UK lockdown banning all non-essential travel, although an exit date may be given on February 22.

Until then, families have been warned not to book summer holidays just yet.

The Eurostar, which connects the UK to France and the Netherlands, may also go bust this year.

Passengers using the service have dropped by 95 per cent since March 2020, when the pandemic started in the UK.

The Department for Transport said it recognised "the significant financial challenges facing Eurostar as a result of Covid-19 and the unprecedented circumstances currently faced by the international travel industry".
