Plane passenger divides opinion after refusing to swap window seat with mum who wanted to sit next to her kid | The Sun

AN infuriated plane passenger has divided opinion after refusing to swap seats with a mum so she could sit next to her toddler daughter.

The fuming flyer said they had the window seat on a flight to Japan and the parent wanted them to agree to an "inferior trade" to a space in the middle of a row.

In a post shared on Reddit, the unidentified traveller said the woman's toddler was in the middle seat next to them.

The mum, meanwhile, was in the middle seat in the row behind.

She approached the passenger to ask to swap to be next to the tot but was refused.

The fed-up flyer slammed the mum's "audacity".

They added: "She asked me – and just me – to switch with her so she could have my window seat (next to her daughter) and I'd take her middle seat a row back.

"Hell to the f*** no. Not my problem they didn't book together.

"Worse is we were surrounded by others from her tour group that she could've asked for a three-way trade instead. Or the tour operator.

"The audacity to ask just me and expect an inferior trade on my side."

Many Reddit users agreed the passenger was right to keep their seat.

One user said: "My rule of thumb is: 1). Will only change an aisle for an aisle (my preference). 2). Will never change an aisle or a window for a middle 3). Will never change if I had to spend extra money to get my seat."

Another wrote: "I'm sick of entitlement from people, and it seems elevated on planes and even more so of late.

"I don’t know you. I don’t generally care about you beyond reasonable human compassion. And I am certainly not responsible for your poor planning."

But other users hit out at the passenger for not giving up their place on the plane.

One said they were shocked that the traveller would rather sit next to "someone else's unaccompanied toddler" than move.

Another commented: "Why were you so eager to sit next to a stranger’s toddler daughter?".

It comes after another passenger sparked a debate about swapping seats on flights, after rowing with mum and her child who'd been split into two different rows.

The woman was on a flight with her husband after a trip celebrating their wedding anniversary, and they were sat in the seats they'd chosen.
