Price of UK hols soar in peak summer with holiday homes costing thousands – but there are still some great deals

UK holidays are still soaring in price as more desperate families book in a trip this summer.

Some trips are costing as much as £6,000 for a week in Britain.

While there has been much debate as to whether summer holidays will go abroad this summer – Transport Secretary Grant Shapps warned all trips may be off this year while Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he had already booked a trip to Cornwall – demand is still on the rise.

Easter holidays have already jumped in price by as much as £1,500.

Research last month found a week at Butlin's Bognor Regis on March 19 was just £318, while this jumps to £1,353 from April 2.

A seven-night stay at Center Parcs in Woburn Forest was just £978 on March 19 – but £2,498 on April 2 – while even Haven holidays in Cornwall jumped from £186 to £502 when in Easter.

Going on holiday during the peak summer season is often one of the most expensive times of year and high demand combined with lower capacity is making prices soar even higher.

One campsite in Suffolk has a week camping in a tent for £800, while a cottage in Dorset for seven nights is only available for £6,000.

A week away in the UK during July and August is hard to find for less than £500 which is double some of the prices for a week in sunny Spain.

There are still some bargain deals to be had however.

Wowcher deals include three nights at a lodge in Somerset for £319, or one-night with breakfast at a hotel in Suffolk for for £59.

  • Three nights in Essex with Parkdean Resorts from £259 – find here
  • Three nights in Devon with Snaptrip from £359 – find here
  • Three nights in Cornwall with Snaptrip from £399 – find here
  • Three night hot-tub breaks in South England with Hoseasons from £295 – find here

Popular destinations are likely to be expensive, or even sold out this summer.

Cornwall holidaymakers are already being put onto waiting lists, with the seaside region one of the most in demand.

Visit Cornwall's Malcom Bell told Sun Online Travel: "The demand is there – there are lots of people asking to be put on waiting lists for self-catered places.

"People are phoning up, saying 'I know you are fully booked but will you take my phone number in case something comes up in July?'"

"I am predicting we will be full up."
