Stanwell House reopened at the end of 2022 after a year of renovation.

High-end boutique furnishings sit alongside original features such as huge sash windows, stone staircases and flagstones.

The friendly and efficient staff are also worth a mention.

The south-facing rear terrace and garden area will soon be complete with an outdoor kitchen for al fresco dining.

Lymington itself is a coastal gateway to the New Forest.

So lengthy coastal walks wind their way from the town and the regular ferry service means you can easily pop over to the Isle of Wight.

Definitely eat at the hotel's restaurant.

The Orangery offers cocktails and afternoon tea while the Salt Bar serves gastropub dishes.

The main dining venue at Stanwell House is the swish Samphire restaurant. ­

Seafood dominates the menu with steak, pork and duck as alternatives.

We chose starters of shrimp risotto and smoked duck breast (£12 each) and mains of pan-roasted turbot (£28) and sirloin steak with prawns (£35).

What are the rooms like at Stanwell House?

That revamp saw makeovers for all 27 rooms with each given its own design.

Our suite combined antique with modern boutique.

Five dog-friendly rooms open out on to the garden terrace.

The WHOLE family is welcome here, even the dog.

There is a Family Suite that comes with a master bedroom and a separate children’s room with bunk beds and a den, connected by a family bathroom.

Plus there are sets of interconnecting rooms and travel cots can be added for tiny tots.

Is there access for guests with disabilities?

There car park onsite but it's small so make sure to call ahead to reserve a space if you require one.
