The tiny UK town that's been compared to a stunning Italian island | The Sun

A TINY town in the UK has been compared to a stunning island in Italy.

The Isle of Mull is home to the small town of Tobermory.

It rose rise to fame as the filming location for the children's television Balamory.

But in recent years the Scottish town has been compared to an island in Italy.

Tobermory has been likened to Burano, an Italian island near Venice.

Both destinations have a string of colourful houses that line their promenades and walkways.

I bought a ‘one euro house’ in Italy & it could soon be worth £400k

In a recent article, travel blogger Angela Price compared destinations across the UK to holiday hotspots around the world.

She wrote: "While the small town of Burano in Italy has a fantastic range of colourful houses, Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides is a fishing village with brightly coloured harbor-front buildings and a lively main street."

In Tobermory, the colourful houses are a mixture of homes, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

But there's more to do on the island than simply admire the brightly-coloured buildings.

Holidaymakers can also book a tour around the local whiskey distillery.

As well as marine wildlife tours, holidaymakers can also go island hopping to the nearby island of Staffa and the Treshnish Isles.

Other activities in Tobermory include a visit to Mull Museum and Mull Aquarium.

For tourists who want more to do than spend a day at the beach, Calgary Bay is a 30-minute drive across the island.

The best way to reach Tobermory and the Isle of Mull is via a passenger ferry from Oban, which takes around 45 minutes.

In Tobermory, there are several cafes and restaurants where visitors can get something to eat including Macgochan's, which serves traditional pub classics.

And if you fancy staying the night, there are lots of places to choose from, one being Park Lodge Hotel which costs around £70 a night.

This isn't the only place in the UK that's been compared to Italy.
