Tiny Welsh hotel that beat Claridges to top Tripadvisor gong & its secret to success

A TINY hotel in Llandudno has beaten Claridges to a top award.

The Lawton and Lauriston Court Hotel came second in Tripadvisor's Best UK Hotel awards, knocking plush London stay Claridges into third.

The Hari – a five-star hotel in London's Belgravia came in at No.1.

Hotelier Scott Lawton-Jones say the secret to their high marks is always making sure their guests are happy – no matter what the request at their Welsh seaside resort of Llandudno.

Scott told North Wales Live: "We offer valet parking, and every guest has a parking space.

"Even if there is none available at the hotel, we will find them a space within walking distance and take them back and to.

"We are always ensuring everybody is enjoying themselves. There is always somebody on hand to make sure they have everything they need."

The venue in Llandudno, North Wales, is run by husband and wife Scott and Hannah Lawton Jones together with Scott's parents Carol-Lynn and Ian Robbins.

He said: "Our ethos rolls down to staff. We have a really relaxed atmosphere and when our guests leave, we want them to feel they had a great service."

Although the hotel was closed during the pandemic the hotel – which has five star reviews on TripAdvisor – hosted key workers from the RAF.

Scott said: "It really helped to keep things ticking over."

He now hopes more guests will chose North Wales as a staycation venue this year.

He said: "Getting abroad is great but the good thing about staying in the country at the moment is you are not that far away from home.

"You can easily get back under your own steam if needed."
