Top 15 family-friendly places for a holiday in the UK

️SUMMER has finally arrived and millions of Brits will be preparing to head off on a staycation holiday this summer.

But if you're holidaying with a family in tow, some destinations are better than others.

PoundToy has compiled a list of the best family-friendly staycations in the UK, by looking at six family-friendly factors and calculate a score out of ten for each destination.

They include residents per square km – to enable social distancing, the number of campsites – as holiday homes and parks sell out due to unprecedented demand, average summer temperatures, the number of green spaces per 100,000 people, the number of child-friendly outdoor activities and the number of chid-friendly restaurants per 100,000 people.

Home of England’s biggest lake, and highest peak, the Lake District came out on top, as the best family-friendly staycation destination in the UK.

From charming towns and villages such as Bowness, Ambleside, and Grasmere to spectacular mountains like Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, the Lakes have a bit of everything for the whole family, including the most outdoor activities and green space of all destinations.

Exmoor in the South West of England is the second-highest-ranking staycation destination.

The national park is an area of moorland bordering the counties of Devon and Somerset and is home to the highest sea cliff in the country near Combe Martin.

The third-place family staycation destination is Cornwall. Apart from its beautiful coastal towns, Cornwall is mainly famous for its jaw-droppingly beautiful beaches and coastal walks.

Cornwall scores the highest of all destinations for the number of campsites, with 252, and has the highest average summer temperature of any location in the top five.

Holiday accommodation in the UK is booking up fast as Brits have been busy locking in staycations for the coming months.

90 per cent of accommodation is booked up in popular destinations during the peak summer months.

The research comes from hotel booking platform, Hoo, who searched for holiday accommodation availability for a family of four across 12 top domestic holiday spots in August.

It found that 90 per cent of accommodation is already full, as 86 per cent of Brits opt for UK breaks this year.

Despite the surge in bookings, we've still managed to find some deals from £29 a night in some of the most popular tourist hotspots – click here to see what is on offer still.
