TUI cancels more holidays including to Egypt and Thailand

TUI has cancelled more holidays and flights until the end of next month, following the scrapping of the traffic light system.

More countries are now open to Brits wanting to go on holiday abroad, which includes Turkey and Egypt.

However, the tour operator has extended some of their holiday cancellations.

Previously cancelling holidays to Egypt until October 9, this has since been extended to October 16 for Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada, and to Marsa Alam until October 31.

This is despite Egypt being taken off the UK's red list, meaning Brits can now return to the popular holiday destination without having to quarantine on their return.

Thailand holidays with non-TUI flights have also now been cancelled until October 30, previously cancelled until October 9.

Holidaymakers who are affected can request a full cash refund, or change their holiday to a different date or location with a booking incentive if their holiday is affected.

The UK government has since scrapped the traffic light scheme, leaving just red list countries behind.

This means there are no green or amber list countries, only countries which are 'open' and 'closed' for travel.

Following the rule change, airports across the UK saw huge queues as holiday bookings tripled.

The testing rules have also changed, with Brits no longer needing a pre-arrival test when returning to the UK from October 4.

It is also hoped that the expensive PCR tests, required on day two, will be scrapped in favour of the cheaper lateral flow tests in time for the half-term holidays.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said Brits should be able to use £5 Covid tests from the supermarkets when they return from holidays abroad, he declared today.
