Looking for an unusual place to stay for your post-pandemic getaway?

The first house designed by Barcelona’s most famous architect Antoni Gaudi is opening as a place to stay.

Although Gaudi’s most well known building is probably the Sagrada Familia – a huge church with work still ongoing nearly 100 years after the architect’s death – his designs are peppered throughout Barcelona.

Casa Vicens was built 136 years ago as a summerhouse for a local family and has been in private hands for most of that time, but now, it’s going to be an Airbnb.

Sadly there is one catch – it will be for one night only.

Lucky guests who secure a booking this autumn will have unprecedented access.

They will be greeted by host Emili, a member of the team that recently transformed Casa Vicens house museum, who will share his his insights and secrets from the restoration project.

During the stay, doors will be closed to the public so guests can explore every area of the Moorish, neoclassical and organic forms.

‘We are excited to give guests the opportunity to experience this house as Gaudi designed it – as a nature oasis. We are deeply committed to the preservation of Gaudí’s cultural heritage and it will be a great pleasure to share the building’s secrets and rich history with whoever books,’ said Emili, Casa Vicens Gaudi Host.

And don’t worry about getting peckish after all that – guests will be treated to a Gaudí-inspired Michelin star menu in the dining room and a nightcap in the luxurious smoking room.

Finally, the two people lucky enough to secure a booking will retire to the Vicens family’s master bedroom – another stunning jewel decorated by Gaudí in his distinctive style.

The next morning, expect a full mediterranean breakfast in the city garden with the ‘best croissants in town.’

If that sounds like your dream stay, booking will open at 3pm BST on July 12 on the Airbnb website.

The booking will be for two guests and will be offered on a first come first-served basis.

House rules are in strict adherence with local Covid-19 guidelines, and those who request to book must live in the same household to minimise risk.

You should also be aware of local and international travel requirements, which may change as your booking approaches. You must be aware and plan your stay accordingly.

Right now, Spain is on the UK’s amber list, meaning quarantining at home on return, but with the stay planned for later in the year, many expect restrictions to have eased by then.
