Fancy escaping a cold and bleak new year in the UK?
Why not pack up and go and work from an idyllic Caribbean beach instead?
The Cayman Islands has just launched its Global Citizen Concierge Program, which invites remote workers to log on from anywhere on its islands, visa-free for up to 90 days.
Picture it – three months of working in the sunshine, snorkeling in your lunch break and after-work cocktails on a white, sandy beach.
So, how can you make it a reality? First, of all, you have to be earning a pretty serious salary.
To apply, you have to show proof that your income is over $100,000 (£749,000) as well as proof of employment and health insurance, six months of bank statements, and the duration of your employment contract.
If you’re successful, you’ll get three months granted to you to work on the islands, but if you want to stay longer you can also apply for a two-year work visa.
The Cayman Islands is made up of three islands, with stunning beaches, lush mangroves, incredible nature and beautiful surroundings.
Spend your free time swimming with the stingrays, scuba diving, or simply soaking up the sun and appreciating paradise.
‘There’s nothing quite like starting the working day with a swim in the warm Caribbean waters, kayaking between Zoom meetings, or even taking the office to the beach,’ says Adrian White of the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
Obviously, the pandemic makes all travel a bit more complicated right now, and visitors heading to the Cayman Islands this winter will have to test negative for Covid the day before their departure.
Right now, visitors also need negative tests on the second, fifth, and tenth day of their stay and you’ll need a travel insurance policy.
The Cayman Islands reopened quarantine-free travel to fully vaccinated travelers from countries with high vaccination rates in November, however, the CDC still designates the islands’ risk for Covid as ‘very high.’
It’s also important to note that anyone travelling from countries where vaccination rates are under 60% will have to quarantine for the first 10 days after their arrival.
So, if by some miracle you hit all of this criteria – why not apply, and spend the next few months under clear blue skies with sand between your toes. It could be just what you need to get 2022 off to an amazing start.
