Bomb squad scrambled to ‘grenade’ in woods discover it’s actually a sex toy

A sex toy mistaken for a hand grenade was judged harmless by a bomb squad sent to destroy it.

Police in Germany reported that the responding explosive disposal unit searched online for grenade-shaped adult toys, to confirm their suspicions, as it was surrounded by condoms and lubricant.

A woman jogging in a forest near Passau, a German city on the Austrian border, sparked the scare by putting a call in to the police about the potentially dangerous item.

According to Bild, police said the bizarre incident involving a plastic bag of x-rated goods took place on Monday in Sonnen, Bavaria.

Officers said that a demolition squad for the “disposal of dangerous explosives” came to investigate a report of the finding.

But experts were able to quickly give the all-clear as instead of any potential explosives they went on to find condoms, lubricant and a dummy grenade made of rubber in the bag, The Mirror reports.

“The search on the internet then confirmed the suspicion" police were reported to have said. "There are actually sex toys in the form of hand grenades. And that's what it was about here.

"Probably someone just wanted to dispose of the things and not thrown them in the trash," said a police spokesman.

Germany has its own specialised unit for defusing bombs called the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, which is considered to be among the busiest in the world, reportedly deactivating a bomb every fortnight.

Thousands of unexploded ordnance from the Second World War are still discovered every year in Germany, with the concentration particularly high in Berlin where many artillery shells and smaller munitions from the Battle of Berlin are said to be found each year.
