Emergency forces BA flight from Heathrow to Dubrovnik to turn back

British Airways flight to Dubrovnik declares an emergency at 17,000ft and is forced to return to Heathrow after just 11 minutes in the air

  • An ‘minor technical issue’ forced the BA flight to cut short its journey
  • The plane had just reached French airspace when it began its U-turn
  • BA 2678 set off at 9:09am and landed back on Heathrow tarmac at 9:20am  

A British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Dubrovnik, Croatia was forced to turn back mid-flight after a technical issue.

Flight BA 2678 departed at 9:09am before squawking a 7700 General Emergency while 17,225ft off the ground.

Just 11 minutes after taking off the plane was back on London Heathrow’s tarmac.

BA 2678 exited continental Europe, flying past Brussels and back over the English Channel for safety on the rainy runways of London Heathrow after suffering a technical glitch

A spokesperson for British Airways said: ‘The safety of our customers and crew is always our priority and the flight returned to Heathrow as a precaution due to a minor technical issue. 

‘The aircraft landed safely.’

The BA 2678 flight from Heathrow to Dubrovnik takes 2 hours and 51 minutes on average, taking passengers 1072 miles across southern Europe and landing near the coast of the Adriatic sea in the south of Croatia.
