As anyone who has visited an Ikea showroom knows, the temptation to lie down on a bed you haven’t had to construct is overwhelming.

Now six lucky customers and around two dozen staff members have been able to live the dream after a snowstorm in Denmark.

After up to 12 inches of snow fell on Wednesday night, customers and employees were trapped in the Aalborg showroom.

They got to sample Ikea’s finest without so much as a thought given to allen keys or even the faintest whiff of a DIY-based row.

Store manager Peter Elmose told the Ekstra Bladet newspaper: ‘We slept in the furniture exhibitions and our showroom on the first floor, where we have beds, mattresses and sofa beds.

‘People could ‘pick the exact bed they always have wanted to try’.

Mr Elmose said they took advantage of the store’s other lifestyle extras, spending the evening eating and watching television.

The chipper manager added: ‘It went super well. It’s been a good night.’

Denmark’s public broadcaster, DR, said people working in a toy shop next door also spent the night in the store.

Michelle Barrett, one of the toy shop staff, told DR: ‘It’s much better than sleeping in one’s car.

‘It has been nice and warm and we are just happy that they would let us in.’

She added: ‘We just laughed at the situation, because we will probably not experience it again.’
