This is the moment a man was arrested for murder as he ate an ice cream and watched snooker just hours after shooting dead his estranged wife in a drive-by attack over their £10,000 divorce bill.

The bodycam footage, released by Northamptonshire Police, showed Michael Reader, 70, being confronted by police on December 15, 2019.

He had shot Marion Price, 63, through the window of her car in the village of Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, earlier that day following a ‘controlling and abusive campaign’ during their marriage.

Reader had been ordered to pay Ms Price £10,000 as a final divorce settlement but took the decision to shoot her at close range just six days later.

His best friend Stephen Welch, 61, was also found guilty of murder after becoming involved in the horrific plot.

Reader was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years and Welch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 27 years.

In the clip, which shows officers arrive at his home at Booth Rise, Northampton, Reader can be seen enjoying a gin and tonic along with a Magnum ice cream.

Reader, who was watching the 2019 Scottish Open Snooker Final between Mark Selby and Jack Lisowksi at the time, is asked by an officer to: ‘Pop your lolly down Mr Reader.’

He is informed that he is being arrested for the murder of Ms Price before he can be heard to say ‘what?’ and feigning ignorance about the incident.

Reader visibly winces as the handcuffs are tightened before he asks the officer: ‘Can you fill me in? What has happened?’

He later calmly asks: ‘When did this happen?’

Throughout the course of their marriage, Reader, formerly of Booth Rise, Northampton, had controlled and manipulated Ms Price.

The thug would belittle her, make derogatory comments about her appearance and turned the ‘fun mum’ her children knew into someone who was ‘constantly on edge’.

On one occasion, in 2017, Reader left Ms Price stranded in London because she had ’embarrassed him’ by getting up to dance at a Jersey Boys musical alongside the rest of the West End audience.

On another occasion, after their divorce was already in progress, Reader secretly installed a tracker on Ms Price’s car in order to ‘keep tabs on her’.

Welch, previously of Addlecroft Close, Northampton, also played an integral part in the murder of Ms Price.

He helped Reader plan it, assisted in following Ms Price’s movements for months prior to the shooting and helped him escape after the murder.

Welch even picked Reader up and helped to dispose of his clothes in the River Nene before getting rid of the murder weapon and taking his friend’s mobile phone.

Thinking he had got away with it, Welch fled to Alicante before police arrested him on his return from Spain.

Reader was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years and Welch was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 27 years.
