An untrained nine-week-old sheepdog has become the world’s most expensive puppy after selling for £7,600 at an auction.

Lassie smashed the record for an untrained pup at a sale of elite sheepdogs in Skipton, North Yorkshire. 

She was born on March 12 in Wales on the farm of Glynne Jones, from Pentir, near Bangor in Gwynedd, who was struck by her unusual lilac colour.

Her sale beat the previous world record of £6,100 for an 11-week-old black and white puppy. Damian Barson became the new owner of the record breaking pup. 

In February this year, a border collie from Ceredigion become the world’s most expensive sheepdog after selling at an online auction for over £27,000.

Kim, who was aged twelve months when sold, was trained by Dewi Jenkins from Talybont, near Aberystwyth, Wales.

The record for world’s most expensive sheepdog was previously held by Henna, a border collie from Brecon, who sold for £20,000. 

Speaking after Kim was sold at the auction, Mr Jenkins told the BBC: ‘She was doing everything – she worked cattle and sheep, she was ready for any trials or farm work for anybody.

‘To top it off, she’s a red colour and they are in fashion at the moment.’

He added: ‘Everything I trained her to do, she knew by the second time. She was a very fast learner.’
