Police appeal after teenage boy, 17, was touched inappropriately by a man while swimming in the sea off Bournemouth beach

  • The 17-year-old was reportedly assaulted while swimming in the sea with friends 
  • The suspect was described as having a tattoo on his neck with the letters AK

Police are appealing for information about a man accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy in the sea off Bournemouth beach. 

The suspect is accused of inappropriately touching the teenager while he was swimming with friends to the east side of Bournemouth Pier at 7.05pm on 17 June. 

The assault reportedly occurred after the victim and his friends met a ‘group of Asian men’ while in the water.

The suspect is accused of assaulting the 17-year-old while they were still in the sea, Dorset Police said.  

He was described as having the letters ‘AK’ tattooed on the left side of his neck, the police force said.

Dorset Police said the suspect was wearing either a white or black vest at the time of alleged sexual assault.

The force are now calling for any witnesses to the incident as they continue to investigate. 

Police Constable Aimi Cowden, of Bournemouth police, said: ‘We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

‘As part of our summer policing operation, local officers and partners agencies carry out regular patrols of the beach and surrounding area. 

‘We will respond to concerns raised and will take proactive action against those involved in reported crime and anti-social behaviour.’
