Teacher, 28, to face trial for ‘having sex with 15-year-old pupil’ | The Sun

A TEACHER is set to face a trial after she was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student.

Rebecca Joynes, 28, has been charged with two counts of sexual activity with a child.

She appeared at Manchester Crown Court for the first time today.

The defendant, who wore a beige jacket, white top and black trousers for the hearing, spoke only to confirm her name and enter not guilty pleas to both charges.

The allegations relate to a boy who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Both date back to October 2021.

It's alleged Joynes “intentionally touched” the boy “not reasonably believing he was 16 or over".

A judge heard the defendant had initially been suspended from her role when the claims came to light.

She is now no longer employed by the education authority concerned.

School officials sat and watched proceedings from the public gallery.

Joynes, from Salford, was granted bail on condition she doesn’t contact any prosecution witnesses and has no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.

The date of her trial, expected to last four days, was set for May.

Judge Rachel Smith warned Joynes that she’d also be required to attend two further hearings in the case in October.
