Trump 'meeting with "Cabinet members" at his golf club' as he mulls 2024 run amid push to reinstate him as president

DONALD Trump has been meeting with Cabinet members in his New Jersey golf club amid speculation that he could run in 2024, his ex-aide has claimed.

Mark Meadows said the former President was looking to “move forward in a real way” with a bid for re-election.

Meadows, who was chief of Staff during Trump’s time in the White House, said he had been holding meetings at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey as the ex-President’s team look ahead to 2024.

He told Newsmax’s Steve Cortes: “Well, we met with several of our cabinet members tonight, we actually had a follow-up member, meeting with some of our cabinet members, and as we were looking at that, we were looking at what does come next.”

The Trump ally did not name any of the cabinet members he claimed to have spoken to.

He went on: “I'm not authorized to speak on behalf of the president, but I can tell you this Steve.

“We wouldn't be meeting tonight if we weren't making plans to move forward in a real way, with president Trump at the head of that ticket.”

Trump has previously confirmed he has another presidential run in his sights – but will wait until after the 2022 midterms to make a final decision.

In April, the former President said he is “100 per cent” considering a run in 2024, adding: “The polls show that everybody wants me to do it.

“100 per cent I'm thinking about running and we will, I think, be very successful.”

Elsewhere, Meadows yesterday defended Trump’s failed endorsement of Susan Wright, who lost a Republican special election primary to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Despite the defeat, Meadows insisted the “magic is still there” and that Trump is a “president that is fully engaged, highly focused, and remaining on task”.

It comes amid reports that Trump privately told dinner guests that he could run again earlier this year.

A former senior official at the Republican National Committee told Rolling Stone: “I have three friends who've had dinner with him in the last couple of months. All three reported that his current plans are to run for president in 2024.

“Now, whether he does or not is a different issue. We've still got three years to go. But he's telling people that.”
