The Queen and Her Cousins with Alexander Armstrong aired on ITV tonight as it followed the Pointless presenter and Princess Olga Romanoff. During one moment, Olga and Alexander discussed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

The pair were comparing the landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey to how Queen Elizabeth II has approached interviews.

When driving to Norfolk together, Alexander asked her about her thoughts on the Royal Family still having a “fairytale” element.

He said: “And is there still a fairytale thing attached to royalty, do you think?”

Princess Olga then replied: “Yes and no, it depends how many times they tell you about their problems on television.

“Which I’m afraid I’m not very keen on.”

Alexander then prodded her, asking: “Yes, your view on the Sussex’s for example?”

Princess Olga replied: “Not great. The Queen’s never sat there and said about anything that makes her miserable, has she?”

She then continued: “The Queen has always got on with it.

“A bit of mystique and all that is a very good thing.”

Princess Olga also spoke about this during an interview on Lorraine earlier today.

When asked whether giving interviews was a way to modernise the Royal Family, Olga shared her opinion.

She said: “I was told to sit down and shut up and never wash your dirty linen in public, whatever it happens to be.

“So I think the Queen does it right.”

Lorraine then added: “Yes she just gets on with it and works incredibly hard too.”

Princess Olga is one of The Queen’s third cousins and is a descendant of the Russian royal family.

The Queen and Her Cousins documentary also followed several other relatives of the Queen as well.

This included her goddaughter Victoria Pryor who was kind enough to share some letters Her Majesty had sent her mother.

Alexander and Princess Olga also visited Lord Ivar Mountbatten who lives with his husband at Bridewell Park.

They spoke a bit about being the first openly gay couple in royal history as well as how they met.

The premise of the one-off special was to take a close look at the Queen’s life through her relatives in her 95th year.

The Queen and Her Cousins with Alexander Armstrong is available on ITV Hub.
