What lipstick colour is best for me?

One of the most important considerations when choosing a lipstick is the colour – and the easiest way to start is by looking at the undertones of your skin.

There are three undertones – cool, warm and in between – and this is different from how light or dark your skin is.

In general, a cool undertone is one with a bluish or pink tinge.

There are a couple of ways to spot this: your skin might turn red and burn more easily in the sun, silver jewellery might suit you better and your veins appear more blue under your skin.

If this is you, a lipstick with a purplish tinge might suit you better.

Those with warm undertones in their skin tend to be more golden-hued, and will tan rather than burn in the sun. You might also find for example that gold jewellery suits you better, or your veins appear more green under your skin.

In this case, a lipstick that’s similarly warm with an orange or salmon tone will complement those shades in your skin.

And if you’re somewhere in between, you can pick from the best of both worlds.

This is only a guide though, and you might find different shades suit you better at different times of the year, when lighting conditions change or when you alter the rest of your makeup.
