Aldi customers furious as hanging egg chair goes on sale early and is sold out within minutes

ALDI shoppers are furious after a “technical issue” meant the supermarket's sell-out egg chair went up for sale early – and sold out in minutes.

The German discount supermarket announced last week that the hanging egg chair would go on sale this Sunday (February 28) at 8am under its Special Buy garden range section.

But a “technical issue” meant it had accidentally been launched before 8am, and many customers missed out on their chance of bagging one.

Angry shoppers took to Twitter to slam Aldi for putting the chair up for sale earlier than what was advertised.

“Really disappointed with Aldi today,” one shopper said.

“New special [buys] online should launch at 8am, went online at 7:50 to buy [the] egg chair and they were all sold out.”

Another shopper raged: “@AldiUK aaaaaargh.

“Come on Aldi, 8am your ads say the egg chair will be available.

“Here we are at 7am and they are all gone. When did you list them and is this how you usually operate?”

Shoppers claimed they were waiting for hours in a virtual queue of thousands of customers scrambling to grab the chair.

“Sold out by 6am when site should go live at 8am,” one shopper said. “Over 8k people in queue to get on site at 8.30! Aldi you should have anticipated this activity this morning.”

Aldi said the hanging egg chair went on sale earlier than planned this weekend due to a “technical issue”, and has said sorry to customers.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this caused and can confirm that a limited number of Hanging Egg Chairs will be back in stock soon.

“Customers can sign up for an alert on the product’s web page, which will notify them when it is back on sale.”

We’ve asked Aldi exactly when the egg chair will go back on sale, and we will update you as soon as we know more details.

It’s not the first time shoppers have been left furious after waiting for hours to buy the chair, only to be left empty-handed.

Last year, Aldi shoppers waited in a virtual queue of up to 40,000 people to buy one – but it sold out in hours.

Some shoppers said they were queuing for hours just after midnight, while others say they couldn't find the infamous chair on Aldi's website at all.

Famous fans, including TV star Stacey Solomon and cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, have similar hanging egg-style chairs in their gardens.

Aldi isn't the only store that's selling hanging egg chairs.

Bargain store B&M is selling one for £125.

B&M told The Sun it's rolled out the chair on the back of the success of its other hanging egg chairs.

These have been brought back in stock too, but they cost a pricier £175.

Meanwhile, NetWorldSports is selling a similar one for £199.99.

Earlier this month, Stacey Solomon showed off an indoor egg chair she snapped up for £25.

Aldi’s new garden range includes the sell-out hanging egg chair, as well as other items for green-fingered shoppers.
