December is the busiest time of year for many people with all the holiday shopping and celebrating. Things are no different in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Fans of the Nintendo life simulator will have plenty to do throughout the month, right up until the moment they ring in the new year. Here’s every event coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in December, including seasonal changes and limited-time items.
‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Snowboy season begins in the Northern Hemisphere
Snow will soon begin to fall over Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands in the Northern Hemisphere, and that can only mean one thing: Snowboys. As Game8 notes, players will see snow on the ground from Dec. 11 to Feb. 24. Every day, snowballs will appear all over the island, which can be used to make Snowboys. Simply roll the snowballs to make them bigger and then push them together to bring the Snowboy to life. However, you should be careful not to break the snowballs or let them roll into the water!
The goal is to create a perfect Snowboy with the right proportions. When you stack the snowballs, the Snowboy will tell you if he’s perfect or not. If you’ve succeeded, he’ll give you one Frozen DIY recipe and a Large Snowflake once a day until he melts.
The Southern Hemisphere gets Bug-Off event
For players in the Southern Hemisphere, December falls in the summertime. That means a Bug-Off event is on its way. On Saturday, Dec. 18, Flick will set up a station in the Plaza for you to collect the bugs you’ve captured or sell them. Each captured bug earns points, which you can exchange with Flick for exclusive Bug-Off items. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time on the third Saturday of every summer month.
The solstices and festive season bring limited time items
It’s almost solstice time! Dec. 21 marks the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Not much happens during these events, but players in the north can have a chance to see the Aurora Borealis.
The solstices will likely come with some limited-time Nook Shopping items from Dec. 15 to Dec. 21. In 2020, northern players could buy the Aurora Wall and the Midwinter Sweater. Meanwhile, southern players could purchase the Sunflower Crown and the Sunflower Rug.
In addition to the solstices, Festive Season also begins in December. From Dec. 15 to Jan. 6, cedar trees will be decorated with ornaments. Players can shake the trees to collect these ornaments in various colors, which can then be used in Festive DIYs. According to Nookipedia, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Update 2.0 brought some new Festive items for 2021, including a Giant Ornament, Ornament Garland, and more.
Celebrate the ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Toy Day event in late December
December’s main events in Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrive at the end of the month. The biggest one to look for is Toy Day on Dec. 24. Leading up to the event, players can purchase holiday-themed outfits and items from Able Sisters and Nook’s Cranny. You’ll also want to collect as many ornaments as possible.
When the big day arrives, Jingle the Reindeer will appear and ask you to craft some wrapping paper. Then, he’ll send you off with a magic bag to deliver presents to all the island’s villagers. When you’re done, Jingle will give an exclusive Toy Day recipe and item.
The next day, if you’ve hung stockings in your home, you’ll find Jingle’s photo inside.
Ring in the new year with the Countdown event
Finally, there are more limited-time items to grab ahead of the New Year’s Eve event. From Dec. 26 to Dec. 31, Nook Shopping will feature items like a Sparkling Cider and a Twelve Grape Dish.
The celebration officially begins on Dec. 31. Resident Services will close for the day as a giant clock in front of the doors counts the minutes until midnight. Tom Nook and Isabelle will also appear outside to hand out and sell items like glow sticks, party poppers, and hats. When midnight hits, fireworks begin, and the island’s villagers ring in the new year.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch, as well as the Happy Home Paradise DLC.
