An artist who was selected by the Princess of Wales to draw the invitation for her Christmas Carol concert has called it an ‘immense honour and privilege’ to be part of the event.

Kate Middleton will host the event, which will pay tribute to the late Queen, on Thursday 15 December  at Westminster Abbey, before it is broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve.

The royal announced the news on Twitter by sharing a video clip of Aurelie Baudry Palmer, from London, sketching a snowy scene at the church, complete with trees decorated with fairy lights and a number of corgi dogs outside.

Aurelie shared a snap of the finished image on her Instagram page, writing: ‘I’ve just had the immense honour and privilege to illustrate the invitation to Westminster Abbey’s Christmas carol service on behalf of @princeandprincessofwales.

The artist, who was born in France and now lives in London, posted on Instagram that it was an ‘incredible honour’ to be part of the event

‘It’s such an incredible honour to be part of this event in such a way and am deeply grateful for this wonderful opportunity.

‘I’m beaming with joy seeing the final video and very thankful to all the team who’ve helped bring this together.’

She added: ‘Do put Thursday 15th December in your diary ! It will also be available to watch on @ITV on Christmas Eve.’

It is not known how the Princess of Wales found the illustrator, who is originally from France but now lives in London.

Aurelie shared a snap of the finished image on her Instagram page and said she was ‘beaming with joy’

She has previously produced illustrations for the Four Seasons hotel group, as well as selling her own cards and notes on online marketplace Etsy.

Kate and Prince William shared the video on their official KensingtonRoyal social media accounts on Friday night, writing: ‘A date for your diary this December!

‘And you can join us for this very special Carol Service on @ITV on Christmas Eve.’

The purpose of the service is to recognise selflessness among individuals and communities around the UK and highlight the importance of supporting others during difficult times.

The event, which is spearheaded by the Princess of Wales band supported by The Royal Foundation, will showcase the ‘joy’ of coming together in friendships and community events that support people in times of difficulty and loss.

It is designed to appeal to people of all faiths, as well as people who do not practice faith or religion.

Royal fans can expect to see members of the Royal Family attend the event as the late Queen is commemorated in a ceremony that will honour some core values she demonstrated throughout her life – including empathy and compassion.

To celebrate such values, some special guests will be invited to the Abbey in recognition of their efforts to help the people around them.

At last year’s event the Princess of Wales was joined by her husband Prince William, Sophie Wessex, and Zara and Mike Tindall

Last year, the Princess’s event was attended by her husband Prince William, as well as Zara and Mike Tindall and Sophie Wessex.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were also in attendance and were pictured singing along to the carols and hymns.

It was also a family affair for the Princess, with her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, as well as her siblings James and Pippa, also in attendance.

During the service, speakers were invited to address the crowd, with the Prince of Wales making a speech as well as ITV presenter Kate Garraway.

Westminster Abbey will be adorned with decorations to mark the event, where some favourite Christmas carols and readings will be performed.

Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning at ITV, said: ‘It is a real honour to be the broadcast partner for the Royal Carols again this year. Viewers are in for a very special festive treat.’
