Bernie Madoff was jailed in 2009 after pleading guilting to defrauding thousands of clients to the tune of billions of dollars. He was serving a 150-year sentence.

What is Bernie Madoff’s net worth?

As of November 30, 2008, Madoff’s net worth was estimated by prosecutors to be $64.8 billion (£47bn).

This was calculated based on the amounts in the accounts of his 4,800 clients.

Later, in March 2009 a court filing found his net worth was “at least $823 million” or £714m.

The court broke down his assets as such:

  • Property: Homes in Manhattan, Palm Beach, Montauk and France worth $22m (£19m)
  • Cash: $17m (£15m)
  • Four boats: $9.3m (£8m)
  • Half ownership of a charter jet: $12m (£10m)
  • His wife Ruth Madoff’s jewellery: $2.6m (£2.3m)
  • A Steinway piano and silverware: $104,000 (£75.5k)
  • Securities: $45m (£33m)
  • Madoff’s ownership in his investment business: $700m (£608m)

Madoff’s son Andrew Madoff passed away in 2014.

On his death, he left more than $15m (£13m) in property in his will.
