Boohoo and PLT launch ‘June 21st dressing’ collections – as shoppers prepare for Covid-19 ‘independence day’ by snapping up printed tops, big sleeves and floaty mini dresses

  • PrettyLittleThing and Boohoo have launched post-lockdown dressing sections
  • Shoppers started snapping up outfits for June 21st when Covid restrictions end
  • Celebrity stylist Rochelle White predicts florals and earthy tones will be popular

Online retailers Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing have launched sections of their sites dedicated to ‘June 21st dressing’ as shoppers prepare to celebrate the end of Covid-19 restrictions.

Last week, Boris Johnson unveiled his lockdown exit strategy, which could see life in England return to something close to normal by June at the earliest.

Under the plan, the last remaining legal restrictions will be lifted on June 21, with nightclubs reopening and large events and performances allowed to resume with full crowds for the first time since March.

With this in mind, the fast fashion retailers have since unveiled specific sections of their online stores dedicated solely to outfits to be worn on the first post-lockdown night out.

Celebrity stylist Rochelle White told Femail that popular trends after lockdown are likely to have a ‘summer feel’ and include bold colours and prints, as well as light denim and flowy dresses perfect for outdoor activities.

‘I think that the post-lockdown look/ fashion trends will have a summer feel’, said Rochelle.

‘With patterns being a part of it with florals, a mix of earthly tones and bold colours with animal prints also being a focus.’

‘I think it will have items that are great for festivals/outdoor events and brunches that are looking likely to happen’, she said, ‘So light denim, shorts, flowy dresses, t-shirt dresses and tops.’

She predicted that corsets and big sleeves will also be a must-have after Netflix Regency-era drama Bridgerton soared in popularity following its release earlier this year.

‘I know that London Fashion Week featured many designers and designs that were inspired by the Netflix TV show Bridgerton and I think that big sleeves, ruffles and corsets will be part of the Summer trend’, said Rochelle.

The online stores are packed full of glamorous party outfits, including pleather trousers and tight mini dresses, as well as ‘spring essentials’ such as summery pastel crop tops and airy smock dresses.

‘Better days are coming. Already planning your 21st June outfit? We see you, girl’, states Boohoo on their website, ‘We’re finally saying ‘see ya lockdown’ which is the perfect excuse for a wardrobe refresh.

‘We’re swapping our go-to loungewear and tracksuits for new season going out outfits and on-trend spring essentials.’

Dozens of Britons – who have spent almost a year living under various forms of lockdown – have now called on the Prime Minister to make June 21 a Bank Holiday so they can celebrate the end of restrictions.

Several petitions have even been launched in a bid to secure the break, with others taking to Twitter to join the campaign and share their optimism over the June 21st date.

One campaign has asked the Government to create a one-off holiday on June 21 called ‘Merriweather Day’ so family and friends are able to spend time together. It has already gained 3,500 signatures.

Others have supported the cause, taking to Twitter to implore the Prime Minister to ‘do the right thing’ and make the date – which marks the start of summer – a Bank Holiday.

One social media user said: ‘Boris Johnson what do you think about declaring the 21st of June, a NATIONAL Bank Holiday? I think it makes perfect sense.’

Another added: ‘June 21st national Bank Holiday… surely! Make it happen Boris!’
