Cost of living direct payment worth £150 to hit bank accounts today

Millions of households across the UK are set to receive a £150 cost of living payment today.

The one-off payment will be paid directly to those living with disabilities in order to help them with rising bills.

The money will begin appearing in people's bank accounts from 20 September but the majority will receive their payments during the first two weeks of October.

It will help those with disabilities pay for any energy intensive equipment they might have, as bills continue to soar.

Millions of people on disability benefits are eligible for the payment, but claimants must have received or started an eventually successful claim for one of the following benefits as of 25 May to be eligible.

You may be eligible for the payment if you claim Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Armed Forces Independence Payment, Constant Attendance Allowance, or War Pension Mobility Supplement.

Those in living in Scotland who claim Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment may also be eligible.

Claimants shouldn't need to do anything to get the money as it will be paid into the same bank account where their benefits payments are made.

If you are still waiting on confirmation of disability benefits from a claim that was put in on or before 25 May, your payment make take slightly longer to arrive.

The one-off payment comes after Liz Truss announced that the price of energy bills will be frozen for two years.

A typical family will now be paying around £2,500 per year from October under the new price cap, which was introduced as energy bills were set to increase to £3,500 a year.

The new Energy Price Guarantee, which has replaced the energy price cap, limits the amount that suppliers can charge customers.

However, it does not limit how much households will pay as this is determined by their energy usage and property size.

From 1 October, all households, regardless of income, will begin to receive a £400 energy bill discount.

The payment will be given by your energy supplier in six instalments, beginning in October and finishing in March 2023.

£66 will be given in October and November, and £67 in December, January, February and March.
