Dads perfectly crispy roast potatoes are so good he has landed book deal

A dad who began experimenting with cooking roast potatoes during the first lockdown has become such an expert at making mouthwatering Sunday lunches he now has his own recipe book.

Jim Lad, who is on TikTok as @jimlad83, has a passion for meaty meals and started by making roast potatoes for a local pub and doing barbecues at events.

During the first Covid lockdown, he began making TikTok videos of his roast potatoes every Sunday and, following months of trial and error, he has now developed the "perfect" recipe and has nearly 200,000 followers.

And when trolls called Jim a "s*** Gordon Ramsay" the world-famous chef even got involved and made a hilarious dis video while naked in the shower.

Jim told Daily Star: "I can’t believe TikTok has lead to me bringing out a book.

"So surreal, and then Gordon Ramsay dueting me on TikTok! What’s next…"

To make his roast potatoes, Jim always starts by parboiling his spuds and then shaking and fluffing them.

He recommends parboiling them until a sharp knife "goes through them gently".

Jim then roasts them in the oven either in goose fat or Crisp n Dry rapeseed oil with a few lumps of Clover margarine on top.

He seasons them with salt, pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, and thyme.

The roasties always comes out golden, with a fluffy centre and irresistibly crunchy skin.

He also leaves his fans drooling with demonstrations of his pork crackling, homemade pies, toad in the hole, and sirloin steak.

Commenting on the latest video showing the results of his roasties, one user called them a "masterpiece", while another said they were "jealous" and someone else called them "beautiful".

Someone wrote: "Those look so good keep doing what you are doing you are so good."

"They are getting better and bitterer aren't they hey," said another fan.
