The weather may still be wet and rainy, but Britain is set to enjoy a heatwave in June – and with restrictions being lifted that means we can make plans!

And, if you can’t get a booking at a pub or restaurant then a great BBQ or garden party will be tonnes of fun instead.

Just imagine sitting in your outside space with your best pal and a cold cocktail in the sunshine.

Bliss!

But, what if your garden isn’t in tip top shape?

Well, MrQ has worked with experts to find our how Brits can turn their backyards into their own dream beer gardens for summer.

Here are five top tips from Elizabeth Waddington, Garden Designer at Horticulture, about how to transform your garden without spending the earth:

1. Create an outdoor bar out of reclaimed materials

An outdoor bar can be the ultimate addition to your beer garden.

Wood pallets or other reclaimed wood can be used for this too.

And there are also plenty of other reclaimed materials you could use, from reclaimed stone or bricks, to reclaimed concrete blocks, to rammed car tyres and other rubbish.

There are plenty of creative ways to make a bar area out of materials that might otherwise be thrown away.

Like this trendy bar made for just £30 by a DIY couple with some old wooden pallets.

2. Grow your own to brew your own beer

Your garden can not only be a place to drink beer and chill out with friends or family; it can also be a place to grow your own home brew.

As well as growing fruit and veg in your garden, consider growing ingredients to add to a home brew.

Hops, for example, can potentially be grown against a wall or fence, or could also climb a pergola or other structure in your beer garden.

And there are also plenty of other plants you could add to your home brewed beers.

3. Create the perfect seating with rustic wood pallet furniture

There are a range of cool DIY projects to consider.

Many revolve around turning old wood pallets or other reclaimed wood into a range of furniture.

Like, this handy DIY fan did last summer for just £12.

4. Reuse beer bottles inventively to create a beer garden ambiance

Even old beer bottles can potentially be used to build up a wall for the base of a bar area.

Beer bottles can also be used, for example, as lanterns, with fairy lights stuffed inside each one.

Or used as candle holders on an outdoors table. The options are endless for using old bottles in creative ways.

5. Simple ways to improve your garden's privacy

When you are in a beer garden, chilling out with your guests, the last thing you want is to feel overlooked.

There is no need to shell out on expensive structures when you can often achieve the privacy you crave with a few carefully placed plants.

Plant fruit trees or bamboo against a wall or fence, or dwarf trees positioned just-so close to a seating area, won't cast too much shade but can screen you from prying eyes.

Carefully placed lush planting will make all the difference.
