A miniature golden doodle could not hold her excitement when she watched a 4×200 metre relay race at a high school athletics meet in Utah. Holly had been at the race with her owners but decided to get in on the action when there was about 120 metres to go. She ran onto the track and overtook the runners one by one until she was neck and neck with leader, Gracie Laney.

Little Holly managed to dart her way to the finish line in about 10.5 seconds, which is just one second behind Usain Bolt’s 100m world record of 9.58 seconds achieved in Berlin 2009.

The crowd went wild when she overtook Ms Laney, almost tripping her over in the process. Ms Laney told track and field website, MileSplit: “I felt [Holly] coming up on me on the side about the last 50m or so, I thought it was a runner at first but then I realised that it was a dog!

“I almost lost focus for a second deciding what was happening and still trying to run the race but I just decided to keep running and finish the race with a new running buddy and hope that no one got hurt!”

Despite Holly’s unbelievable performance, the victory was awarded to Ms Laney with a time of one minute 59.27 seconds.

The video has since gone viral and had thousands of views. One viewer said: “Oh dear! I remember my childhood dog Lucky getting onto the football pitch on the rec when there was a very serious match going on! He took the ball and wouldn’t give it back! I was mortified! Made everyone smile though.”

Another said: “This is incredibly wholesome, and I’m sure all the competitors were thankful for the loving company along the path!” A third replied: “Such wholesome news. If only everyday were like this!”
