EastEnders’ Lola star Danielle Harold’s transformation amid character’s devastating death

EastEnders star Danielle Harold looked dramatically different earlier this month as she posed for a glamorous selfie amid her character Lola's devastating death.

The actress, 30, is bowing out of the show after 12 years and in emotional scenes airing on Wednesday night, her character's family and husband Jay (Jamie Borthwick) will be left heartbroken when she passes away from an incurable brain tumour.

Danielle's Instagram picture was worlds apart from the sad storyline as she donned a white shirt and blue jeans with a blue blazer and opted to add bronzed makeup to the stylish look.

She teased her blonde locks into loose waves with plaits and also sported a slick of pale pink lipstick, captioning her post with a butterfly emoji.

Her friends and co-stars including former EastEnders actress Patsy Kensit flooded the comments with praise.

Fans also remarked on the fact that they are going to miss Danielle on the show after she leaves and described her as an amazing actress.

Lola’s had lots of other stories over the years, from attempting to rip-off Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), to becoming a teen mum to Lexi which Danielle has revealed to be one of her favourite episodes.

“It was such a big day, the live birth when I had Lexi,” she said. “We had the Olympic torch as well and you don't really get those moments that are big for you and big for the character.

She continued: “It was just such a huge thing anyway, and then as a character getting to give birth, it was massive.

'That was probably my best ever and the most terrifying thing I've ever done in my life.”

As for leaving Lola behind, Danielle won’t be forgetting her neon tracksuit clad alter ego anytime soon.

“Lola for me, obviously this has been most of my acting career – I've learned so much playing her,” she said.

“I've learned so much being there, playing her has helped me learn so much about being a character.

'And playing a character like that for so long, you don't really get that opportunity in many places to do that.”

She added, “I'm just so lucky that I've had the chance to play her for so many years and watch her grow as I've grown up, she's grown up as well. It's been amazing.”

EastEnders airs on BBC One at 7.30pm every Monday to Thursday
