EastEnders’ Zack Morris’ rumoured romances and reason for leaving the soap

Last month EastEnders actor Zack Morris took to the BBC show’s Instagram account to announce his departure from the soap after five years.

Zack, 23, who has played Keegan Butcher-Baker for five years will be leaving the show this spring in what he called "a tough decision" to give his on-screen character "some well-earned rest".

Earlier this week he took to his personal Instagram account to share snaps of his leaving party with his followers.

Accompanying the black and white images of his send off, Zack wrote: “Celebrating the end of an incredible era with some incredible people. You’ve all played a huge part in making me who I am today.

“The love will always run strong. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This is only the beginning… #GoodByeKeegs.”

Zack was previously rumoured to have a relationship with his character’s onscreen love interest Maisie Smith. Maisie, 20, who played Tiffany Butcher left the soap in 2021 but will return to EastEnders for Zack’s departure.

She previously told The Sun that while the pair were "close mates" they weren’t dating.

He took praised the show when announcing his departure on social media: “This show has quite frankly changed my life for the better. It will always hold a real loving place in my heart.

“The cast and crew of this show deserve every accolade that comes their way.”

While Zack is yet to announce what his next project is, the actor has previously acted in TV series’ One Night and The Fades. In 2019, he was shortlisted as Best Actor at the British Soap Awards.

He is also trained in singing, acting and dance at the D&B Academy of Performing Arts where he landed a scholarship thanks to JLS star Marvin Humes.

Speaking to What’s On TV, Zack said: “Marvin Humes went there too. He’s got a scholarship, which I’ve got. He picks one person every year to fund, and he funds me.”

Zack’s departure from the show comes as his character Keegan deals with the aftermath of Tiffany’s departure.

Keegan’s wife Tiffany left the show with her brother Liam after the latter tricked her into thinking Keegan no longer loved her.

Since then, recent episodes have seen Keegan drinking in The Vic feeling sorry for himself as he comes to terms with his loss.

Zack's character Keegan first landed on Albert Square as part of the Taylor-Butcher clan along with his mum Karen, siblings Keanu, Bernadette, Chatham and Riley and their dog Bronson In 2017.
