If you do your makeup in your bedroom, or have a teenager who does, then you’ll know that cosmetics easily stain your carpet.

Whether it’s greasy lipstick, foundation or powdery shadow it gets stuck in the fibres and is a nightmare to remove.

Especially if your kids made the mess and didn't tell you for a while.

Dried in stains are even harder to eradicate and can seem an impossible challenge. But, that's not the case!

Luckily, makeup should come out of your carpet and upholstery if you follow the right cleaning tactics.

And, all you’ll need is some common household items like washing up liquid, white vinegar and a variety of cloths.

What's your favourite cleaning hack? Tell us in the comments…

Here’s what to do:

Fresh stains

Liquids

Don’t rub the stain, mix some washing up liquid with water, shake it together and apply to the mark.

Blot it with a cloth – the washing up liquid should grip the oils in the cosmetics and stop them seeping into the fibres.

Powders

Vacuum immediately.

Wet a cotton pad with micellar waster and blot until it lifts out.

Finally dab with a clean wet cloth.

Dried stains

Mix two tablespoons of white vinegar and mix it with a cup of water.

Then, dip a microfibre cloth in the mic and blot from the outside in.

After a while the stain should come out.

When it’s gone, use a wet cloth to blot out the vinegar.

Voila! It’s all gone.
