Cockapoos are currently ranking in seventh place in theUK’s favourite dog breed competition– and we aren’t surprised! Cockapoos are sweet, loving and friendly dogs.

OK! is backing Cockapoos as the nation’s most treasured breed – don’t forget, there’s still time for you tocast your third and final votein the competition run by our sister site TeamDogs in association with Pooch & Mutt.

Ahead of the final on Saturday,TeamDogsare sharing five facts about the nation’s best-loved breeds.

From being the first designer dogs to being doggy geniuses, here are five things you didn’t know about Cockapoos:

1. Cockapoos were the first designer dogs

Cockapoos were first bred in the 1950s, and they were the original hybrid dog.

When other breeders saw the success of the Cockapoo, they began cross-breeding other dogs. To this day, Cockapoos remain the most popular.

2. Cockapoos are doggy geniuses

Cockapoos are a very intelligent breed of dog and they like to be tested.

Cockapoos will do far more than sit, down and stay. They have been known to break out in dance, complete a dog puzzle and race to complete numerous tricks in short spaces of time.

Many believe they train easily and can be taught to do almost anything.

3. Cockapoos' ears need extra TLC

Cockapoos have droopy and floppy ears – which are super cute. But this means they have a higher chance of becoming dirty and infected.

It's super important that you check and clean your Cockapoos ears on a regular basis, and talk to your vet about ear cleaning products.

Making sure the groomer is clipping excess hair around the ears is helpful, too.

4. Cockapoos come in a variety of colours

A Cockapoos' coat will vary from dog to dog. Common colours include white, black, auburn, gold, silver and tan.

Cockapoos can have a solid coloured coat, or they can have a multi-coloured coat. Many even have patches and coloured freckles and spots.

It's hard to predict what colour a Cockapoo puppy will be until it's born.

5. Cockapoos are allergy friendly

Cockapoos can make a great addition to families who suffer from dog allergies. Whilst they are not completely hypoallergenic, they are low shedding and have low dander.

Because they are a mixture of Poodles and Cocker Spaniels, Cockapoos are known to shed less than the majority of other breeds.

If Cockapoos are your favourite dog breed, cast your third and final vote in the UK's Favourite Dog Breed competition before the final on Saturday, August 14.
