Flight attendants share reason you should NEVER remove shoes on plane

‘It’s not water that you’re seeing on the bathroom floor’: Flight attendants reveal the GRIM reason why you should NEVER remove your shoes on a plane (even if you’re wearing socks)

  • They warned against moving through the aircraft without shoes to Insider
  • The airline employees said you may step in ‘bodily fluids’ if you walk barefoot

A series of flight attendants have revealed the grim reason why you should never remove your shoes on a plane – even if you’re wearing socks.

While it may be tempting to slip off your sneakers and get comfortable during a long flight, multiple airline employees have warned that you should never walk through the aircraft barefoot – because you may accidentally step in ‘bodily fluids.’

According to two different stewardesses, who spoke to Insider recently, the floors on airplanes are extremely dirty – and they are even sometimes covered with urine.

‘It’s not water that you’re seeing on the bathroom floor sometimes,’ Leysha Perez, a Delta crew member, told the outlet. ‘It’s probably bodily fluids that you’re walking in.’

‘For the love of all things, wear shoes,’ another attendant – who works for a major US airline, but whose identity was kept hidden due to privacy reasons – agreed.

‘Walking throughout the aircraft barefoot or even with socks is disgusting.’

Back in 2015, a cabin crew member whose name was not shared confirmed to DailyMail.com that walking barefoot around a plane was certainly unhygienic, and could even be dangerous.

‘The carpets are filthy and the toilet floors are worse,’ they said.

Another woman named Danielle, who works for Emirates, went viral on TikTok last October when she shared a similar sentiment to her account, while listing the five things she would never do if she was traveling as a passenger.

Her top thing? Going to ‘the bathroom without any shoes on.’ She shared: ‘It may look like water on the floor but trust me guys, it’s really not. I am sure you can guess what it is.’

Other things on Danielle’s list included falling asleep with your face against the window – since ‘hundreds, if not thousands,’ have probably touched it before you – touching things in the bathroom with your bare hands, and using the seat tray without sanitizing it. She also warned against ‘joining the mile high club.’

what NOT to do on your next flight ✈️

Another flight attendant named Cierra Mistt also warned against taking your shoes off while flying in a video shared last month, in which she listed the worst things she’s seen passengers do throughout her time as an airline employee.

‘Keep your shoes on during the flight. Our planes are dirty,’ she explained. ‘The liquid you see on the bathroom floor is not water.’

Cierra also spoke out against standing up as soon as you land. ‘I promise you’re not getting out of there any quicker.’ she added.

Removing your shoes can also be disrespectful for those around you. Last year, a passenger went viral after they posted a clip that showed the person who was sitting behind them had their bare feet propped up on their arm rest – and it launched a fierce reaction from social media.

‘Oh hell no,’ one person wrote, while someone else called it their ‘worst nightmare.’
