Happy Valley’s James Norton’s dating history from ‘acrimonious split’ to Hollywood fiancé

Happy Valley ’s resident bad boy James Norton has captivated the nation in recent weeks with his starring role as notorious criminal Tommy Lee Royce in the Yorkshire crime drama.

Yet while James brings to life the villainous murderer on screen, many fans have been left curious about his life away from the show – in particular his dating history.

Sadly, in a piece of news that will likely break the hearts of many fans, James is currently off the market and is happily engaged to actress Imogen Poots.

The couple first went public with their romance in 2018, when it was revealed they had met and fallen in love while working alongside each other on a West End production of Belleville at the iconic Donmar Warehouse in 2017.

After months of dating, the couple even moved in together, and currently share a quirky home in Peckham, slap bang in the centre of London’s thriving arts scene.

Although the couple are notoriously private, Imogen has appeared several times on James’ Instagram feed over the years, including in 2019, when he shared an adorable black and white snap of the Hollywood star while they were enjoying a holiday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

"Trying my hand with some film cause I'm a dirty Luddite," he captioned the post.

Imogen herself has also openly discussed their relationship, including in an interview with the Evening Standard where she explained how their long distance relationship had worked as they were often required to spend weeks apart on sets around the world.

"I've never known something to fall apart because of distance,” she explained, while confirming that a long distance relationship wasn’t an issue for her.

She continued: "I find work to be my happy place, in a way. Because it's all I've ever known: packing up a bag and moving on. That restlessness that's inherent in you is very addictive.”

The couple announced their engagement in February 2022.

Imogen is best known to many fans for playing Tammy in the post-apocalyptic horror film 28 Weeks Later, but has also appeared in a number of other Hollywood hits including Vivarium alongside Jesse Eisenberg, and Filth, alongside James McAvoy.

Prior to dating Isobel, James had previously dated his War and Peace co-star Jessie Buckley from 2015 to 2017.

Describing their split as “acrimonious” the Irish actress admitted that things weren’t the easiest in the world, but still spoke highly of her ex in an interview with The Times.

"We have broken up, yes,' she told the publication. “It was acrimonious, but it's a tough job to have a relationship and he is a great man and we are great friends. That's it. How diplomatic can I sound?"

She added: "If you are away for a year filming, you are just not physically around at points."
