How Corrie star Sam Aston’s older brother Joseph once played major role on soap

Sam Aston has been portraying soap favourite Chesney Brown since 2003, but his brother actually starred in the soap before he landed his famous role.

The Coronation Street star, 28, is the youngest of nine children, and one of his older brothers, Joseph, 30, previously starred in the hit ITV soap.

Joseph took on the role of Tommy Duckworth, grandson of the legendary Jack and Vera, in 2000, taking over from Darryl Edwards who portrayed Tommy from 1992 until 1997.

The character was involved in a custody battle with his grandparents at the time, after his mother Lisa's tragic death.

While important to the plot, Joseph's stint on the soap was short. But he's also starred in ITV's Where the Heart is, and BBC One's Casualty.

He eventually left acting behind in a bid to focus on his studies, and he's now a keen gardener according to his Instagram profile.

The 30 year old started his "gardening journey" back in 2021, and documents his "successes and fails" on Instagram as he attempts to grow different vegetables in the British weather.

Joseph is set to become a dad soon, with his long-term partner Roxanne Brazington recently announcing that they're expecting their first child, a baby girl, later this year.

Joseph isn't the only Aston to appear in Corrie either, as his and Sam's older sister Emily, 40, took on the role of Rebecca Palmer in May 1996.

The actress remained on the soap until March 1997, and has since gone on to star in many series including Where the Heart Is, Blackpool, Funland, Robin Hood, Doctors and Heartbeat.

Before appearing in Coronation Street, Emily trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the Oldham Theatre Workshop, after starting acting at seven years old.

She appeared in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, which earned her a BAFTA nomination, as well as Children's Ward, Casualty and 1995 film Butterly Kiss.

Sam, 28, has remained on Coronation Street since 2003, and has become a fan favourite over the years.

Away from the cobbles, the actor is married to yoga instructor Briony, 26, and the couple are parents to 21-month old son, Sonny.

They tied the knot in Cheshire in 2019, and are expecting their second child together, a baby girl, who is due to be born in May.
