I am having nightmares about my fiancé leaving me as our wedding day approaches

DEAR DEIDRE:  I AM having vivid, upsetting dreams about my fiancé leaving me even though we are getting married soon.

I am aware that my past probably has something to do with it.

I was engaged to another man before I met my fiancé. He broke it off out of the blue, much to my surprise. I later found out he had been cheating on me.

I also briefly dated another man until he called it off abruptly after suffering depression due to being made redundant.

I am 30 and my fiancé is 32. We have been together for three years and I’m incredibly happy.

The dreams are upsetting and I wake up panicked and crying.

I have talked to my fiancé and he’s very understanding and reassuring. We are able to laugh it off but I’m worried that, as our wedding day approaches, the dreams may become more frequent.

DEIDRE SAYS:  While our dreams might not be able to predict the future, they can still be indicators of our very real feelings – though those might not necessarily be directed at your fiancé.

It is normal to have dreams based on fear and anxiety as a result of negative past experiences that you don’t want to happen again.

Keep talking to your fiancé – that will help ease your fears. It may help you to talk it through with a counsellor before your big day. My support pack How Counselling Helps explains.
