A sex worker has opened up about what it's like to spend time working at America's oldest legal brothel – and she said she offers an "essential service" to people who may otherwise never be touched.

Dacé, 27, is originally from Mississippi, but now she works as a courtesan at the Mustang Ranch – America’s oldest legal brothel.

She is an independent contractor, as opposed to an employee, and her job is to provide sexual care to people in a safe and highly regulated environment.

Speaking exclusively to The Daily Star, Dacé explained that she first applied for the job online when she was as young as 21, but she'd actually been working in the adult industry since she was in high school.

As soon as she turned 18, she started doing webcam work for clients from home at night.

She said she started doing this around halfway through her senior year.

Dacé said: "My parents didn’t know, but several of my friends did at the time.

"I’ve worked in 'full-service' sex work at Mustang Ranch since 2016, although I did take off most of 2019 to go back to college, and all of 2020 because of the pandemic.

"I love learning, but veterinary medicine wasn’t as fulfilling for me after I had gotten a taste of the industry.

"When I came back to sex work in 2021, I decided to jump in with both feet and never look back.

"I won’t be a working girl forever though – at some point in my early 30s I’ll transition into a management position, and hopefully be groomed to take over the role of Madam some day.

"The only brothel I would ever work for is the Mustang Ranch. These people have become my family."

For those who have never heard of the Mustang Ranch – it's a brothel where anyone aged 18 years and above can pay for an experience with a working lady.

Most of the experiences tend to be sexual, but sometimes they can be purely for the sake of companionship.

Clients can book appointments or attend walk-ins to mingle with the ladies in the attached bar.

When a client chooses a lady, Dacé explained that they go to a private little office to negotiate the details of their encounter.

Before money changes hands, clients are inspected for visible signs of STDs, which staff have been trained to recognise.

Dacé continued: "The office handles all monetary transactions and pays us via pay checks twice a week.

"This means all my income is reported and able to be claimed so that I can pay taxes, buy property and invest.

"All of us ladies live on property for the duration of our tour – that’s for the medical safety of the clients.

"When a lady arrives, she’s given a full panel STD test. It takes 24hrs for results, and if she passes she’s able to work.

"Every seven days we’re re-tested – if we leave the property, we have to re-test and get clean results before working again.

"That makes going home at night impossible – if ladies were allowed to leave during their tour, management could not be sure where they were going, what they were doing and with who.

"That’s one very important reason that I and other working ladies in Nevada (the only state in the US where prostitution is legal in licensed brothels) advocate for legalisation modelled after highly regulated licensed brothels.

"Not just decriminalisation, which puts both the client and the working lady at risk on many many levels."

Dacé's story of what it's like to work at Mustang Ranch came to light after she started creating TikTok videos about her experiences under the name of The Modern Working Girl.

She said she joined the social media platform "pretty late in the game" – and she didn't really think her account would last.

But when the internet embraced what she was doing – she went for it – and now she creates videos explaining common questions people ask about her job.

"I hope to raise awareness for the industry and advocate for the rights of sex workers here in the US," she said.

"Hopefully culminating in protective legislation.

"This is the oldest profession in the world. It’s everywhere, and it’s not going away ever."

Discussing the measures in place to ensure her physical safety, she added: "We have 24/7 armed guards trained to be at our side in 30 seconds or less if an alarm is triggered.

"Every room has an alarm, and large rooms have more than one alarm.

"Though it’s worth noting that I’ve never had to trip the alarm – I did need security to help me dress a very drunk guest after our party once, but that’s the extent of my need for the security team."

Dacé said what surprises a lot of people is that couples can sometimes swing by the ranch to have a good time together.

She said the Mustang Ranch wins Brothel of the Year every year and, due to the fact that she's an independent contractor, she's able to set her own prices, make her own rules and choose which clients she will or won’t see.

Dacé' said: "No one can tell me that I have to see someone or take the amount they’re offering.

"I only ever do what I’m comfortable with or in the mood for – no matter how much money is at stake."

When asked how much money she earns a week, she added: "An average is really hard to say. I might spend the entire week with one client or I may see multiple people per day.

"I do have my weekly report sheets from every working week I’ve had since 2016 though, so I actually know exactly how many people I’ve slept with over the course of my working career – thousands."

But – more than anything – Dacé finds the work she does really empowering, and she explained that men and women can seek her out and book appointments months in advance.

She said they sometimes pay her "handsomely" just to be around her.

"They worship my body, send me unique and highly personal gifts, check in with me to see how I’m doing," she said.

"They deeply care, listen, and remember. It’s incredibly humbling as well as empowering."

She also said she "carries a light inside her" knowing how many people she's helped over the years.

Dacé is proud of the voice she's gained for the industry via her platform.

She said: "What I’m doing is legal and a very essential service to a society starved for compassion and human touch, and I’m excited to be able to share my experiences.

"The financial ability to make my wildest dreams come true should also be mentioned.

"In not many other lines of work could an uneducated (no college degree), unskilled (never been to trade school) female make as much per year as the president of her country."
